What is an elevation?

Elevation – the exterior of a building wall with all its elements.

Elevations, depending on their location, can be defined as:

according to location, e.g. the street: front, back, side, garden (for buildings with an adjacent garden)
according to cardinal directions – e.g. north, east.

the front elevation of a building, located from the street side containing the entrance, is often the most representative (but not necessarily), and is sometimes called a façade. This name is usually used for urban buildings, forming a frontage, where the remaining exterior walls connect with neighbouring buildings or are obscured.
